An Introduction.

Hi, my name is Simon Nichols and along with my 3 friends/partners in crime (Seth Chapman, Mark Wilson and Ashley Beolens) I am hoping to set a new total of birds seen in Buckinghamshire within a 24 hour period (midnight to midnight). This website is intended as a brief overview of what we are going to do, the rules and most importantly of all the sponsorship details.

All monies raised by this event will be donated to BBOWT who "exist to create a better future for the wildlife of the three counties" which is a sentiment I'm sure we all believe in.

Many of the reserves that we will be visiting during the day are managed by BBOWT and we feel that by donating our sponsorship money to this worthy charity we will be helping to fund these reserves for many years to come.

WE NEED YOUR HELP !!!!!!

The Plan

Our plan is to break the current Bucks day list total of 113 (114 inc Red crested Pochard) which was set in 1990 by Mike Wallen, Mike Collard, Jim Rose and Dave Furguson. This is an impressive score and has yet to be bettered, despite many years of trying ! We are hoping to beat this record with the help of Buckinghamshires birders !!! We need as many people as possible to get out and about on the 10 May 2003 to check sites that we will be visiting throughout the day and to report these sightings into a central point. More importantly we also need YOUR MONEY !

Rules + Sponsorship Details

We plan to start birding at 00:00 on Saturday 10 May and finish up 24 hours later with the record! The following rules and regulations will be adhered to on the day

  1. All species must be seen or heard by at least 3 members of the team – species can be seen separately and then remaining members can catch up during the day.
  2. The birds welfare always comes first.
  3. The team shall start and finish within Buckinghamshire for the 24 hour period of 10 May 2003.
  4. Only birds seen or heard in Buckinghamsire will be counted.

To help keep us going we would like YOU to sponsor us per species that we see or hear within this period. As an added incentive we hope you will sponsor us a different (higher ;-)) amount for every species we see over the record.

Contact Details

If you would like to help out with this extremely worthy cause (either by phoning in news or sponsorship ) please contact Simon Nichols in the first instance, via email simon.Nichols@sun.com or telephone 0771 471 1233 stating how much per species you are willing to sponsor us.

The address to send sponsorship monies or donations is

7 Watchet Court, North Furzton, Milton Keynes, Bucks, MK4 1HE

Thanks for visiting – bookmark this page as a full race report will be posted sometime after the 10th May 2003.
